bits and pieces

Finally, finally got to see Sex and the City with the girls after a whole month of biting our nails and facing huge glittery billboards splashed everywhere (at least in Europe, they were). The film was all glam-up and glitzy for the movies, so it didn’t feel like those 25 minute clips that I was so used to watching, and it was a little draggy in parts, but satc being satc, didn’t lose its magic in the dishing out of worldly but rather sensible and thought provoking one-liners. Kinda hit home in some parts. Watching it with the other 3 made it really special because after all, we’re the new 20-somethings aren’t we! Gave them a treat by sending ALL of them home after the film ended at midnight. I am so nice.
My spoils from the trip! So pretty, all of them. Yes I can unabashedly say that I am a tourist - I have played into their manipulative little hands and have squandered my hard-saved money on these silly touristy trinkets. But I love them. I love them because they were bits of Europe that I brought back with me, a little piece of something from each place to remind me that I’ve been there, and have walked their streets, seen their sights, sat in their cafes and eaten their food. I miss it already.
It’s strange what snippets of memories you take back and start to miss when you can no longer see someone. Memories of that person taking out a bottle of coke every night for a habit drink, of turning around to check on you while cycling to make sure you haven’t fallen to your death, of taking your bike from you when it gets too heavy, of the intent look that person gets when marinating food while cooking…you never really know which parts of things you’re gona miss, that is until you no longer have them. Weird isn’t it, how we often only appreciate and realize how important that person is on hindsight and on forced separation. It never seemed that nostalgic and beautiful when you’re in that situation at that time, when all you can see is through your narrow tunnel vision and not the big picture. I guess I’m guilty of that, as we all are.
